SP (Substance P)
Our latest stabilizing technology now allows an accurate measurement of SP.
In this service, the level of SP in a blood plasma sample is determined using an ELISA method.
SP (Substance P) is a polypeptide made up of 11 amino acid residues.
SP is chemical signal transmitter of the primary sensory nerves. Hyperactivity in natural transmission of pain and inflammation is suspected if a high concentration of SP is observed in a sample.
SP is attracting attention as a useful marker for inflammation and allergic disorders.

The figure shows a comparison of the concentrations of Substance P in the blood plasma of atopic dermatitis patients (AD patients) and no-AD patients. The graph indicates that the concentration of Substance P in the AD patients is substantially higher than that in the non-AD patients. |
Because SP in blood plasma becomes unstable once the blood has been drawn, it has been difficult to obtain an accurate measurement of SP to date.
Here at KMAC, we are using the latest technology to achieve the stabilization of SP in blood plasma after the blood has been drawn.

This test is not eligible to receive points under the National Health Insurance(NHI) point's scheme.
The steps to be followed in requesting the SP analysis service:
1. Placing a request for the analysis.
We ask our customers to contact our Center via telephone or e-mail to request the SP analysis.
2. Shipping of the stabilizing agent.
The stabilizing agent is sent to our customers from our Center.
3. Blood drawing.
Quickly separate the plasma after drawing the blood. Within four hours of plasma collection, mix an equal volume of the stabilizing agent and the blood plasma (250 μL each) and store the mixture in a way that ensures it stays frozen. See stabilizing data Figure 3 for reference.
4. Shipping of the sample.
Please send the sample to our Center using a frozen shipment service along with the analysis request form and the analysis sample specification form.
5. Turnaround of the results.
Although the turnaround time will depend on the sample volume, we will usually mail out the results in approximately two weeks.
6. Billing of the analysis is complete, we will mail you a bill.
After the analysis is complete, we will mail you a bill.
Caution: Results from this analysis cannot be used in medical diagnosis. Please use the results as intended for research use.
